Day 1: Vancouver - KamloopsTravel through the scenic Fraser Canyon with it’s “Hells Gate” and along the Thompson River. In the nineteenth century, steamboats plied the waters between Georgia Strait and Yale were the Fraser River emerges at sea level. and were especially busy during the gold rush of the 1850s and 1860s. Boats continued to provide a vital link in the valley as the gold rush tapered off and Europeans began farming. Hells Gate is the narrowest point of the Fraser River. At high water level almost 220 million gallons of water are running with a speed of 30 km through the 33 meter wide gorge. The area is also known for one of the largest sockeye salmon runs in the world. Kamloops is the gateway to the interior of British Columbia and characterized by hot summers, snow-filled winters, literally thousands of lakes, spectacular landscapes, large ranches and endless blue skies.
