Day 1: VancouverThe largest city in Western Canada with a population of 2.2 Mio people is named after Captain George Vancouver - a British explorer. The city developed rapidly from a small lumber mill town in 1860s to the busiest sea port in Canada. Today cosmopolitan Vancouver is consistently ranked one of the three most livable cities in the world. in 2010 Vancouver and Whistler are the host of the Olympic Winter Games. Sights include: Stanley Park, English Bay, the Granville Island Market, Chinatown, Science World, the Aquarium and the Museum of Anthropology among others. Vancouver’s many surrounding beaches are perfect for a relaxing day in the sun. Excellent sea food restaurants, bars & cafes, world-class entertainment and cultural events are providing many recreational and sightseeing opportunities for your vacation. Don’t miss a trip by plane or ferry over to Victoria - BC’s capital city on Vancouver Island. Victoria is well known for its heritage buildings, mild climate and the many attractions. Overnight: Marriott Residence Inn & Suites (or similar) Day 2: Vancouver - KamloopsTravel through the scenic Fraser Canyon with it’s “Hells Gate” and along the Thompson River. In the nineteenth century, steamboats plied the waters between Georgia Strait and Yale were the Fraser River emerges at sea level. and were especially busy during the gold rush of the 1850s and 1860s. Boats continued to provide a vital link in the valley as the gold rush tapered off and Europeans began farming. Hells Gate is the narrowest point of the Fraser River. At high water level almost 220 million gallons of water are running with a speed of 30 km through the 33 meter wide gorge. The area is also known for one of the largest sockeye salmon runs in the world. Kamloops is the gateway to the interior of British Columbia and characterized by hot summers, snow-filled winters, literally thousands of lakes, spectacular landscapes, large ranches and endless blue skies. Departure Vancouver: 07:30 / Arrival Kamloops: 17:35 Day 3: Kamloops - JasperTransfer to the railroad station. You are leaving Kamloops and the Cariboo region for an magnificent rail tour to the world-class destination resort of Jasper within the Rocky Mountain National Parks. Highlights of the day include: the Continental Divide, Monashee & Cariboo Mountain Ranges, Yellowhead Pass, Pyramid Falls, Mount Robson - with 3945 meter the highest peak within the Canadian Rockies - and the North Thompson area. You’ll be surrounded for most of the way by a dramatic mountain scenery. Upon arrival in Jasper, motorcoach transfer to the hotel. Jasper National Park is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site with breathtaking vistas, excellent wildlife viewing opportunities and a perfect base to explore West Canada’s Rocky Mountains. Evening at leisure. Overnight: Marmot Lodge Banff (or similar) Departure Kamloops: 08:10 / Arrival Jasper:18:10 Day 4: JasperEstablished in 1813, Jasper was first a Northwest Company and later a Hudson Bay Company fur trading outpost. The current park was established in 1907, with the Canadian Northern Railway beginning service to Jasper in 1912. Jasper is surrounded by four mountain ranges. Today you have a choice between a variety of included sightseeing tour options: (1) Maligne Valley tour including Maligne Canyon and the beautiful Maligne Lake with its enchanted Spirit Island - one of the most popular sights within Jasper National Park. (2) Wildlife Safari - search for Wapitis, Elk, Moose and Mountain Goats (3) Athabasca River Float Trip - perfect for all ages (4) Athabasca Rafting Trip with small sets of rapids and calm stretches. All tours are including a pick up at your hotel. Remaining day at leisure. Overnight: Marmot Lodge Jasper (or similar) Day 5: Jasper - Lake LouiseThe itinerary today includes a sightseeing tour of the Jasper and Banff National Parks via the famous Icefield Parkway. Among the highlights of the tour are: Bow Lake, Peyto Lake, the magnificient 325 square kilometers large Columbia Icefield and the Athabasca Falls. The Columbia Icefield is one of the largest accumulations of ice south of the Arctic Circle and one of the most accessible icefields in North America. It is also a true "hydrological apex," for its meltwater feeds streams and rivers that pour into the Arctic, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans. Here you will ride on the Ice Explorer coaches to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier to learn more about its geological features. You’ll have some time for lunch (not included) before continuing to Lake Louise. One hour guided shore and interpretive stroll at Lake Louise The emerald colour of the water comes from rock flour carried into the lake by melt-water from the glaciers that overlook the lake. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the magnificent location. Overnight: Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Hotel Day 6: Lake Louise - BanffEnjoy a half-day tour into Yoho National Park to view some of its natural wonders. In 1984 the park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sights include: the Natural Bridge, Emerald Lake, the Spiral Tunnel, Burgess Shale, Takakkaw Falls, Wapta Falls and Kicking Horse River. Yoho National Park represents the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains region, and is also a native Cree expression of awe and wonder for this place of rock walls, spectacular waterfalls and soaring peaks. In the shadow of the Great Divide, the park holds the secrets of ancient ocean life, the power of ice and water, and unique plant and animal communities that continue to evolve today. Continue to Banff National Park, Canada’s first national park. Spanning 6.641 square kilometers of valleys,mountains, glaciers, forests and rivers - Banff is one of the worlds premier destinations. Your sightseeing tour includes: Upper Hot Springs, Banff Springs Hotel - a landmark within the Rockies, Cave & Basin, the Hoodoos and Lake Minnewanka. Overnight: Banff International Hotel (or similar) Day 7: Banff - CalgaryMotorcoach transfer (126 Km) from Banff to Calgary. Stopover in Kananaskis with a 15-minute Summit Helicopter Tour over the remarkable landscape and peaks of the Rockies. Visit a local guest ranch for a lunch and spend some time exploring Kananaskis - together with Calgary home and hosts of the 1988’s Winter Olympic Games. With a population of 1.1 Mio Calgary is the largest city in the province of Alberta - approximately 80 Km east of the Rocky Mountains. When the Canadian Pacific Railway reached the area in 1883 Calgary began to grow into an important commercial and agricultural center. The cities economy grew again when huge oil reserves were discovered in 1971’s. Today - Calgary is a bustling and vibrant city with a high tech industry, many music festivals and major attractions. Sights include: Olympic Park, Fort Calgary, the Tower and the Glenbow Museum. One highlight is the annual Calgary Stampede - a popular 10-day event during the month of July with Rodeos, Chuckwagon Races, Country Music Performances and Fireworks.
