Day 1: HalifaxUpon arrival in Halifax transfer (included) to your hotel. The rolling hills of this city rise up from the harbour and the historic central district to the upper ramparts of the Halifax Citadel, a star-shaped fortress that offers visitors splendid views of the city and waterfront. Many of the downtown attractions are within walking distance of each other, making this sophisticated urban centre the perfect spot for a walking tour. Overnight: Delta Hotel Halifax (or similar) Day 2: Halifax - MontrealHalifax is the capital of Nova Scotia and one of the world's largest deep water harbours. With over 400 km of dramatic coastline and white sand beaches, its no wonder life here revolves around the sea. Morning: departure around 9:00 for a 3-hour Halifax City Tour - View Historic Properties, the Titanic Burial site, the Spring Garden Road area, Province House, Old Town Clock, St. Paul's Church, City Hall, Grand Parade, Government House, the busy port, Point Pleasant Park, residential areas, the universities, and much more. The tour includes also the Victorian Halifax Public Gardens, and the Halifax Citadel National Historic Park. Late afternoon transfer to the rail station and departure to Montreal. Overnight onboard the train in bedroom compartments with private facilities. Day 3: MontrealBreakfast onboard the train. Morning arrival in Montreal - the second-largest primarily French-speaking city in the world, after Paris. Remaining day at leisure. The city covers most of the Island of Montreal at the confluence of the Saint Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers. The port of Montreal lies at one end of the Saint Lawrence Seaway, which is the river gateway that stretches from the Great Lakes into the Atlantic Ocean. Montreal is defined by its location in between the St. Lawrence river on its south, and by the Rivière des Prairies on its north. The city is named after the most prominent geographical feature on the island, a three-head hill called “Mount Royal”, topped at 232 m above sea level. Montreal is the cultural hearth of classical art and the venue for many summer festivals and concerts. Overnight: Delta Centre-Ville Hotel Montreal (or similar) Day 4: MontrealMorning city sightseeing tour: Old Montreal - Located between the River and downtown, this historical part of the City and its Old Port will put you into close contact with the past life of a major metropolis of North America. Old Montreal has always been the center of the City and has preserved testimonies of all bygone eras. Notre Dame Basilica - A masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture. The magnificent interior decor captivates hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Olympic Park - Built for the 1976 Summer Olympic Games. Impressive in size and shape and topped by the tallest inclined tower in the world. Mount Royal Park - The scenic lookout offers a striking view of the downtown area and the river. St-Joseph's Oratory - Atop of Mount-Royal, it is one of the world's most visited shrines. The basilica's huge dome reaches 97 meters and is second only in height to Saint-Peter's basilica in Rome. Overnight: Delta Centre-Ville Hotel Montreal (or similar) Day 5: Montreal - TorontoFirst-class train departure from Montreal to Toronto. The city is located in Southern Ontario on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario. With over 2.5 million residents, it is the fifth most populous municipality in North America. Toronto is part of a densely populated region in Southern Ontario known as the Golden Horseshoe, which is home to 8.1 million residents and has approximately 25% of Canada's population. Time to explore the city: visit the second largest Chinatown in North America, the third largest theater center in the world, the numerous cultural and historical attractions like Casa Loma and Fort York along with world-class museums such as the Royal Ontario Museum. Toronto is also home to some unique attractions like the Bata Shoe Museum - the only museum of its kind, and the Hockey Hall of Fame - home to the Stanley Cup. Overnight: Delta Chelsea Hotel Toronto (or similar) Day 6: Toronto - Niagara Falls - TorontoAt 10:00 travel on our first-class, washroom-equipped motor coach for a breathtaking full-day tour through the orchard-laden Niagara Peninsula to Niagara Falls - one of the great natural wonders of the world. You will enjoy a panoramic view of the Falls during your sumptuous buffet lunch at the Penthouse Restaurant Dining Room. Then it’s off to the Maid of the Mist*, for an exhilarating boat ride to the base of the majestic Horseshoe Falls. In the afternoon, there will be ample time for souvenir shopping at the Table Rock Complex. We also stop at the observation deck of the mighty Whirlpool and Rapids and visit the Floral Clock. There are plenty of exciting photo opportunities as we wind our way along the Niagara Gorge via the magnificently landscaped River Road. Return to Toronto during the early evening. Day 8/9: VIA Rail TouringContinue your rail journey across Canada to Jasper. Day 10: Arrival JasperArrive in Jasper this afternoon. Established in 1813, Jasper was first a Northwest Company and later a Hudson Bay Company fur trading outpost. The current park was established in 1907, with the Canadian Northern Railway beginning service to Jasper in 1912. The town is surrounded by four mountain ranges. Today you have a choice between a variety of included sightseeing tour options: (1) Maligne Valley tour including Maligne Canyon and the beautiful Maligne Lake with Spirit Island - one of the most popular sights within Jasper National Park. (2) Wildlife Safari - search for Wapitis, Elk, Moose and Mountain Goats (3) Athabasca River Float Trip (4) Athabasca Rafting Trip with a small sets of rapids and calm stretches. Overnight: Marmot Lodge Jasper (or similar) Day 11: Jasper - Lake LouiseThe itinerary today includes a sightseeing tour of the Banff and Jasper National Parks via the famous Icefield Parkway. Stretching for 230 kilometers, the parkway offers easy access to one of the most spectacular mountain landscape on earth. This is a world-class journey through the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Among the highlights of the tour are: Bow Lake, Peyto Lake, the magnificient 325 square kilometers large Columbia Icefield and the Athabasca Falls. The Columbia Icefield is one of the largest accumulations of ice south of the Arctic Circle and one of the most accessible icefields in North America. It is also a true "hydrological apex," for its meltwater feeds streams and rivers that pour into the Arctic, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans. Here you will ride on the Ice Explorer coaches to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier to learn more about its geological features. You’ll have some time for lunch (not included) before continuing to Lake Louise. Remaining day at leisure. Overnight: Chateau Lake Louise Hotel Day 12: Lake LouiseEnjoy a half-day tour into beautiful Yoho National Park to view some of its natural wonders. In 1984 the park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sights include: the Natural Bridge, Emerald Lake, the Spiral Tunnel, Burgess Shale, Takakkaw Falls, Wapta Falls and the Kicking Horse River. Yoho National Park represents the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains region, and is also a native Cree expression of awe and wonder for this place of rock walls, spectacular waterfalls and soaring peaks. In the shadow of the Great Divide, the park holds the secrets of ancient ocean life, the power of ice and water, and unique plant and animal communities that continue to evolve today. One hour guided shore and interpretive stroll at Lake Louise. The emerald colour of the water comes from rock flour carried into the lake by melt-water from the glaciers that overlook the lake. Banff National Park is Canada’s first national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At 1463 meters (4800 ft) it is the town with the highest elevation in Canada. Spanning 6.641 square kilometers or (2564 sq. miles) of valleys, mountains, glaciers, forests and rivers - Banff is one of the worlds premier destinations and the center for cultural activities. Today’s sightseeing tour in/around Banff includes: Upper Hot Springs, Banff Springs Hotel - a landmark within the Rocky Mountains, Cave & Basin, the scenic Hoodoo rock formations and Lake Minnewanka. During the summer Banff hosts the World Television Festival, the Mountain Film Festival and the Rocky Mountain Music Festival. Today’s scenic highlights of your railtour journey include: the unique Spiral Tunnels near Yoho National Park, the climb over the 1382 m Rogers Pass within Glacier National Park, the Continental Divide, Kicking Horse Canyon, many snowcapped peaks of the magnificent Rocky Mountains and the vast ranchlands and lakes of British Columbias Interior around Kamloops. Departure Banff: 08:20 / Arrival Kamloops:19:20 Day 16: Kamloops - VancouverKamloops is the gateway to the interior of British Columbia and characterized by hot summers, snow-filled winters, literally thousands of lakes, spectacular landscapes, large cattle ranches and endless blue skies. The rail journey continuos through the scenic Fraser Canyon with it’s “Hells Gate” and along the Thompson River. In the nineteenth century, steamboats plied the waters between Georgia Strait and Yale were the Fraser River emerges at sea level. and were especially busy during the gold rush of the 1850s and 1860s. Boats continued to provide a vital link in the valley as the gold rush tapered off and Europeans began farming. Hells Gate is the narrowest point of the Fraser River. At high water level almost 220 million gallons of water are running with a speed of 30 km through the 33 meter wide gorge. The area is also known for one of the largest sockeye salmon runs in the world. The journey ends at the cosmopolitan city of Vancouver on the Pacific Ocean.
