Day 1: CalgaryWith a population of 1.1 Mio Calgary is the largest city in the province of Alberta - approximately 80 Km east of the Rocky Mountains. When the Canadian Pacific Railway reached the area in 1883 Calgary began to grow into an important commercial and agricultural center. The cities economy grew again when huge oil reserves were discovered in 1971’s. Today - Calgary is a bustling and vibrant city with a high tech industry, many music festivals and major attractions. Calgary hosted as the first Canadian city the 1988’s Olympic Winter Games. Sights include: Olympic Park, Fort Calgary, the Tower and the Glenbow Museum. One highlight is the annual Calgary Stampede - a popular 10-day event during the month of July with Rodeos, Chuckwagon Races, Country Music Performances and Fireworks. We provide a private limousine transfer upon arrival from the airport to the downtown hotel for our clients. Note: We organize visits to the Stampede including tickets for all events. Overnight: Executive Hotel Calgary (or similar) Day 2: Calgary - Banff - JasperThe very scenic private tour in comfortable passenger vans may be customized. Travel with your interpretive guide along the world-famous Icefields Parkway and see roaring waterfalls, emerald lakes, alpine meadows and snowcapped peaks. Sightseeing stops along this beautiful highway will include the Athabasca & Sunwapta Falls, the Weeping Wall, Bow Lake and the Crowfoot Glacier. You will also make a stop at the Columbia Icefields Centre where you will have the opportunity to take part in the Snocoach Tour onto the Athabasca Glacier if you would like, or you may simply choose to enjoy the interpretive glacier gallery exhibit at the centre. The 90-minute ice age adventure tour provides fascinating information about glacier, icefields and their impact on our environment. Passengers can safely step out onto the glacier and stand on this powerful ancient ice. The Athabasca Glacier is one of the largest accumulations of ice and snow south of the Arctic Circle. Transfer to the Marmot Lodge (or similar) in Jasper. Departure Calgary: 08:30 / Arrival Jasper: 17:30. Day 3: Jasper - QuesnelTravel onboard the Rocky Mountaineer train from the world-class mountain resort of Jasper within the Canadian Rockies to the charming rural town of Quesnel - gateway to the Northern Cariboo District. The city grew up as the commercial centre during the 1861’s gold rush and landing for sternwheelers cruising on the Fraser River. If you arrive in July don’t miss the historic Billy Barker Days celebrating the cities heritage and first gold miner. Pass through the Rocky Mountain Trench, with the steep Rocky and Cariboo Mountains either side, and on to the rolling hills and vast forests of British Columbia’s northern interior. Highlights include Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, Yellowhead Pass and Moose Lake. Your day concludes as the Rocky Mountaineer passes through the town of Prince George and follows the Fraser River into Quesnel. Overnight: Best Western Hotel Quesnel (or similar). Departure Jasper: 07:10 / Arrival Quesnel: 18:30 Day 4: Quesnel - WhistlerToday’s journey takes you south to the four-season resort town of Whistler within the Pacific Coast Mountains. Enjoy a breathtaking and varied scenery, from the desert-like conditions of the Fraser Canyon to the rolling hills and vast ranchlands of the Cariboo Plateau to the river canyons and lush farmland of the Pemberton Valley. Scenic highlights include: sweeping views of the Fraser Canyon, the crossing of Deep Creek Bridge - one of the highest railway bridges in the world and the shorelines of glacial-fed Seton Lake and Anderson Lake. Your rail journey ends today upon arrival at the world-class resort town of Whistler, host of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games alpine events. You’ll like the traffic-free and pedestrian only Whistler Village area with it’s many unique shops, great restaurants and bars. Overnight: Adara Boutique Hotel in Whistler (or similar) Departure Quesnel: 07:10 / Arrival Whistler: 19:30 Day 5: Whistler - VancouverTime to explore the area. Whistler is also a very attractive summer recreational resort located between the two peaks of the Whistler - and Blackcomb Mountain and provides a wide range of activities. Its yours to enjoy. This afternoon transfer to the rail station. You travel onboard the Whistler Mountaineer to the coastal city of Vancouver. It is a breathtaking rail tour through the stunning scenery of the “Sea-to-Sky” country region with spectacular views. The Howe Sound is North America's southernmost fjord, located northwest of Vancouver and extending from West Vancouver north to Squamish. Surrounded by towering peaks that rise straight out of the sea, Howe Sound is Vancouver's playground for sailing, diving, camping and hiking activities. Highlights of the tour include: Shannon Falls, Mount Garibaldi and the impressive Cheakamus Canyon. Upon arrival at the train station in North Vancouver, motorcoach transfer to Vancouver Downtown.
