Day 1: Anchorage - Denali National ParkEnjoy sweeping views of snowcapped mountain ranges while traveling from Anchorage via Wasilla, Willow and Talkeetna to Denali National Park. The historic village of Talkeetna - almost halfway between Anchorage and Denali - is nestled at the base of the tallest peak in North America, the 20.320 ft. Mount McKinley. Talkeetna has an outstanding panoramic view of the Alaska Range that can be enjoyed and photographed from several places as you wander through this town and discover what this unique location has to offer. Continue your rail journey to Denali Park. Along the way, you may spot a variety of wildlife (optional on board lunch). Upon arrival at the Denali Village train depot transfer to your hotel. Take advantage of the long summer hours of daylight for an optional tour and discover all this magnificent area has to offer. Remaining day at leisure or for outdoor activities. Day 2: Denali National ParkEarly departure on a pre-reserved full day narrated national park and wildlife observation tour within the shadows of the 20.320 foot Mt. McKinley to the Eielson Visitor Center or to the scenic Wonder Lake with a magnificent view of the mountain. The 6 million protected acres encompass a complete sub-arctic eco-system. Denali National Park and Preserve’s dynamic glaciated landscape supports also a diversity of wildlife, including grizzly bears, caribou, wolves, dall sheep and moose. More than 150 different bird species inheriting the park area. This trip provides some excellent hiking, photography and wildlife viewing opportunities. Return to the national park entrance anytime at your own pace. Guests may enjoy the award winning Denali Visitors Center, the many easy accessible hiking trails, park ranger discovery hikes and walks within the area, sled dog demonstrations, evening auditorium and educational programs of the Murie Science and Learning Center. Overnight: Denali National Park Day 3: Denali National Park - AnchorageSpend the morning at leisure within the Denali National Park area. You have a choice of optional rafting of floating trips on the Nenana River, a horseback trip or a scenic flightseeing tour through the magnificent Alaska Range to see Mt. McKinley, Mt. Foraker and Mt. Hunter up-close-and-personal. Transfer to the railroad station around 11:45 and check in. Note: On this train are three levels of service; “Standard”, “Private Dome” (operated by private companies) and “Gold Star Dome”. Many people prefer the standard class for its single level stability, generous seating and the ability to easily walk between different cars on the train. The Private Dome service is a good value for those looking for full-time Dome seating for improved viewing from the train. The GoldStar Dome is the top-of-the-line rail service featuring the newest rail cars, the largest picture windows and the finest dining options. For fares please refer to the options below.
